“Slow Bee” is an attempt to redefine our relationship with bees and to create a new paradigm of caring for them. In this class, the third in the series presented by Demeter USA, we will examine a Biodynamic approach to apiculture and explore the unique matrix of the life and inner organization of honey bees. Presenter Michael Thiele will focus also cover the reemergence of ancient and traditional ways of apiculture, in particular the craft of the “Zeidler,” who use to take care of bees in living trees. His presentation will ask how can we heal the earth through healing the life of bees.
Michael Thiele is the founder of Gaia Bees, an educational platform and resource for a new approach to living with bees that promotes alternative and bee-centered beehive/nest designs and “landscape apiaries.”
In 2007, Michael co-founded “The Melissa Garden” in California, which was one of the first Honey Bee Sanctuaries in the US (now a pollinator sanctuary). His work is documented in various international magazines, books and film documentaries.
